MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers)

will meet the first and third Thursday of each month from 9:30 to noon at Ridgewood Baptist Church on the corner of College and Blanding. It is open to all moms with a child preschool age or younger at home. We fellowship, do crafts, and have speakers. Quality Childcare is provided for children 6 weeks through preschool. Winters' Nature & Bird Festival

Calling all nature lovers! - Wings Over Clay County is sponsoring a Winter Nature and Bird Festival at First Baptist Church of Middleburg (across the street from Publix) on Saturday, February 9 from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

In addition to nature-related crafts , games and a puppet show for the kids, the event will feature representatives from The Audobon Society, the Keystone Farmers Market Organic Club, Jennings Forest, Untamed Adventures (an outdoor group for women), H.A.W.K.E., The Wildlife Coalition, Creation Education Resources, Wild Birds Unlimited and others providing information and educational materials for all ages. If you are a formal educator, a homeschooling parent or one who enjoys learning about birds and nature, you will not want to miss this fun and educational event! The photography gallery is named after Florida-born and internationally recognized artist, Jack Mitchell.

Monday, January 7 - The Maple Leaf:
American Civil War Shipwreck

A Museum of Florida History Traveling Exhibit during the latter part of the Civil War in Florida, the Union transport ship Maple Leaf was sunk in the St. Johns River near Jacksonville by a Confederate torpedo. This exhibit features items used by the soldiers on board the Maple Leaf, an authentic reproduction of the Civil War-era torpedo that was used to sink the ship, photographic panels and an informational video.

Monday, March 31 - Carolyn Ann Day: Photography
Carolyn Ann Day's specialty is handcolored photography - darkroom printed black and white original photographs that have been carefully colored with soft colored pencil - each image requires many hours of hand applied layers of color and black outlining.

Features the best of Florida artists and will present artists of all media.

John Bunker has been a professional artist for 35 years. He has sustained an extensive and varied museum career, which includes being the long-term associate director and interim director of the Jacksonville Art Museum and the director of the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens. His art works are included in numerous museums as well as corporate, public and private collections in the United States and abroad.

Monday, April 14 - George Spivey: American Primitive Painter
From the Maitland Arts Center in Maitland, Florida, comes this extraordinary collection. Spivey a poet and photographer, began painting at age 60. His style is reminiscent of his philosophy of life-native yet real, gentle but strong- with added good humor, design and color.

MEN OF THE DEEPS
North America’s only coal miners chorus

Collectively telling their story through a broad repertoire of traditional and contemporary mining songs, The Men of the Deeps is a choir of working and retired coal miners from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Performing around the world to sold-out crowds since 1976, the all-male ensemble consists of generations of miners or former miners ranging in ages from 23 to 84, many of whom have been singing together since its inaugural concert.

Their very first United States tour brings them to the THCA in a special musical evening. The Men of the Deeps is more than a singing group - it is a social institution. A true comradery exists among the members that carries over to their audiences wherever they perform.
